X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Software Update Released

A software update is now available for ColorChecker Passport.  Software v 1.0.2 includes a bug fix for using Passport software with Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3 when using “Export with Preset” allowing the dialogue box to appear for naming the profile being created.  But there’s much more in this software update whether you’re using Lightroom® 3 or are still using Lightroom® 2 and when using the free standing ColorChecker Passport software instead of the Lightroom® plug-in.

The release notes indicate the following:

  • Improved color extraction for better profile accuracy
  • Improved patch detection (eliminates errors in cases where the luminance of light-colored patches meets or exceeds the luminance of the white patch)

All you need to do is launch the ColorChecker Passport software and a dialogue box will appear indicating that the new v 1.0.2 is available and asking you to authorize the download. You will need to be in the software package not the Lightroom® plug-in to accomplish this update. (In the event you don’t get this automatic prompt for whatever reason simply choose “Help” and “Check for Updates…” from the top menu choices).

Download, install and relaunch either ColorChecker Passport software or Lightroom®. So if you haven’t tried Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3 download your free 30 day trial today after you open ColorChecker Passport software and get the brand new v 1.0.2 update.  Get the benefit of improved color extraction and patch detection immediately!

    • Yes you would need to make additional profiles to take advantage of the software improvements. Due to changes in light, even daylight outdoors during different portions of the calendar year, you’ll want to remake the profiles regularly in most circumstances. The changes will be small but will provide an overall upgrade to the durability of the profiles you create.
Fortunately we have the nifty little DNG Profile Manager (available as a free download when you register your Passport) to assist us with managing the new profiles created for any purpose. Thanks for your question and enjoy the Passport!

  1. Hi, I have installed lightroom 3 and I have installed the V1.0.2. software + lightroom plugin. Unfortunately I’m not able to find the X-Rite option in the ” export preset” menu of lightroom. Can somebody tell me what I’m doing wrong? Please consider I’m a complete rooky on the MacOS, I just stepped over from Windows. Additional remark: when installing the colorcheckersoftware it always refers to the lightroom plugin 2.2, it doesn’t mention lightroom 3.

Looking forward to any useful comments

  2. i have the same problem with Ron… Can anyone help me please on how to install the color checker on my LR3….. been installing it for the 5th time and still the same…

    • John,
Please see my latest blog post on the different interface appearance in Lightroom 3. If the X-Rite Plugin is not available after and reinstall and update of the software with Lightroom 3 shutdown at the time you do the reinstall, then please contact our customer success team at cmsupport@xrite.com. Be sure to indicate your operating system when you describe the issue. And let us know the outcome.

  3. I am now running Lightroom 3 and have installed v1.0.2 software + plugin. I am not able to find the X-Rite option under the Export Preset. When I go to File>Export I don’t have an option to choose between two little arrows. I read through your detailed blog post but it doesn’t not contain any information for how to verify the plugin has become active.

  4. Installing this software for LR3 on Windows 7 requires the admin password, and the Lightroom plugin ends up being installed for the Administrator user rather than the current user. I had to perform these steps in order for the plugin to be properly installed:

    – Copy \Program Files\X-Rite\ColorChecker Passport\presets\ColorChecker Passport.lrtemplate into \Users\[myself]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Export Presets\User Presets

    – Move the folder \Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\XRiteColorCheckerPassport.lrplugin into the folder where Lightroom is installed

After starting Lightroom, the Export with Preset function works as expected.

    • Don,
Please register your ColorChecker Passport at http://www.xritephoto.com/ph_registration.aspx. You’ll find the serial number at the bottom of the written text on the “page” that faces the white card. Once you’ve registered you will receive a link to a utility called DNG Profile Manager that will allow you to manage your profiles. (delete, export, import, turn on and off, etc.)
Please let us know if you have difficulty.
