X-Rite ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro Features | Ambient Light Smart Control
by Brenda K. Hipsher – July 25th, 2011
ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro have two new features that are of particular interest to folks who do not have optimum lighting environments for their monitors. One of these features is called Flare Correct™. We looked at that feature indepth in a blog post called New X-Rite ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro | Flare Correct.
This post will look more carefully at Ambient Smart Control. This features allows you to use your ColorMunki Display or i1Display Pro device to sit on your desk and monitor changing light conditions during the day and evening. These new solutions send information to the software that can be taken into account allowing the monitor profile to be modified to compensate for these changing conditions.
It’s important to note that X-Rite’s recommended lighting conditions include using color corrected lighting for viewing prints, a hood over your monitor, and a controlled lighting environment that does not rely on harsh overhead lighting or ever changing window lighting. But we understand that many of us have a window in our office that means a constantly changing lighting situation throughout the day. This is where Ambient Light smart control comes in.
When using this feature it’s important to find a good placement for the device to increase performance. This short video illustrates the pitfalls to avoid when placing the device in your work area.
Ambient Light Smart Control is not a substitute for recommended lighting conditions. But if you have changing daylight in the environment where your color correction monitor resides Ambient Light Smart Control may help you have a more consistent viewing experience by adjusting your monitor in relation to your ambient light conditions.
Ambient Light Smart Control is just one great new feature in these two new display color management solutions: ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro.
