X-Rite Solutions Mac OSX Lion Compatibility

by Brenda K. Hipsher – July 7th, 2011

If you plan to upgrade to Apple’s new OS 10.7  Lion operating system some planning may be in order.  Be aware that any software program that used Rosetta in Leopard and Snow Leopard will no longer function when you upgrade to Lion.  Setting up a work around with a dual boot system on an operating system that will provide support for these programs may not be an ideal solution. X-Rite is providing upgrade paths for you use in evaluating your decision to upgrade to Lion. Our goal is for you to be able to continue using X-Rite color management solutions and help you understand what path is appropriate for your particular situation.

All upgrade paths are currently available except for “Monitor Only” i1Match users (owners of i1Display LT or i1Display 2). The upgrade path for these customers will be a monitor only module of the new i1Profiler software which recognizes the i1Display 2 colorimeter. Any customer who purchases and registers their i1Display LT or i1Display 2 solution from January 1, 2011 will be eligible for a free update. All purchases prior to 2011 will be charged a nominal fee.

If you own an i1Display LT or i1Display 2 and would like to be notified when this software is available CLICK HERE to go to enter your contact information.

The chart below details current and retired solutions and gives you appropriate upgrade paths for each one. The current i1Profiler software, ColorMunki software, and ColorChecker Camera Calibration software does not rely on Rosetta and is completely compatible with Lion.

  1. Hallo,
    I am using a color munki photo S/N 0816-02002619.
do I have tu upgrade the software to a newer version to be able to calibrate my monitor under OSX Lion?
    Thank you for information!

    sincerely
    Walter Proprentner

  2. Hi Brenda, do you know what’s the idea about the functionality found in i1Share (measurement, comparisons, etc.) for Lion users? It will be ported to i1Profiler or some new product will be released?

    • Our product managers are always listening to the marketplace and working toward responding to the needs of photographers. We recognize that i1Share features are important and we consider including some features in future releases of i1Profiler or Pantone Color Manager. Thank you for using X-Rite and taking the time to share your comments with us.

  3. I have Monaco EZ color and Monaco Optix. I am currently able to use EZ color on OSX Snow Leopard (via Rosetta) but see there is no upgrade path listed in your chart for my combination. I use the Monaco products with my scanner to create printer profiles as well as to profile my display.

I thought perhaps ColorMunki Photo was an upgrade path for me, but although that’s listed as Lion compatible, it’s not listed as an upgrade path – is that because it’s an end-of-life product? I am not interested in upgrading into a dead-end product where I may have trouble for getting software updates for future OSX upgrades, so what, if anything, does X-Rite recommend for an upgrade?

    • ColorMunki Photo is a current product and is the “older brother” of the NEW ColorMunki Display. ColorMunki Photo profiles monitors, projectors, and printers. ColorMunki Display is a monitor and projector solution. These are the flagships of the ColorMunki family and are products that are carrying forward into the future. But products are already completely compatible with Mac OS X Liion. If you want to profile monitors, projectors, and make custom printer profiles then ColorMunki Photo is the product for you.

  4. So if I have Monaco EZ Color Suite and just got Lion I must get rid of your old software/hardware which works fine and purchase new stuff? I hope this isn’t the only solution -it lowers the value of your brand.

    • Hi JR,
You have two wonderful choices in the newly designed colorimeters and software packages for ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro. ColorMunki Display features great profiles with ease of use at a lower investment and i1Display Pro at less than $100 more gives you the ultimate in features using i1Profiler software and amazing measurement speed. Great new devices designed for new monitor technologies to give you superior results.

      • Frankly I’m weary of purchasing equipment from a company which is not committed to keeping old but functioning hardware relevant. I am a professional internationally published photographer and I’d like to know that I will not have to purchase new equipment every time Apple changes their OS.

  5. I am using a HueyPRO calibrator and Mac Osx Lion. For some reason, every time I restart or boot my computer up the device is not being seen. I have to unplug and plug in the HueyPRO (usb device) for it to register and show in my toolbar without the little “x” in it.

Also, I see no difference in the brightness of the monitor no matter how much ambient light is present?

    Any help available?

  6. I have a Huey Pro and a MacBook Air (mid 2011) running Mac OS 10.7.3. When I run the calibration, I get a strong green cast on my display. Is there a compatibility problem?

  7. What about Mountain Lion ….. My system seems to hang on the Beachball. Uninstalled Colormunki and all is well. Any word on this from Xrite?

    • Peter,
Not sure what is happening. I suggest reinstalling ColorMunki Photo software. Note that any software that was developed before Mountain Lion will require the Security & Privacy settings to be changed to all applications downloaded from “Anywhere.” X-Rite is a registered software developer with Apple. Many software packages have this issue for the moment.
Please contact cmsupport@xrite.com for assistance with this issue. And please let us know how it is resolved here.
      Thanks very much,
      Brenda K. Hipsher

  8. I purchased the i1 Display 2 in 2010 for my iMac monitor. Now, I have a MacBook Pro Laptop running Lion and tried to download the SW from my original CD but now I see this is not compatible.
I assume from this post I need : i1 profiler MAC Monitor Update Module,’ – how do I get this please and how to I install it ………in simple terms please :)

  9. I bought a brand new scanner two months ago and it came with EZ Color. I was very disapointed to find out that this software couln’t be run on Lion OS, thus is totally useless to me. Wow, this OS exists since july 2011 and I still can buy devices with incompatible softwares ??? Anyway, is there any solution for me (which does not consists in bying a new software) ?

    • EZ Color has been discontinued for several years now. You will need to check with your scanner manufacturer to find out why this product is still being shipped with new scanners. That is an issue for the scanner manufacturer.
The i1Profiler software v1.4 update does now include scanner profiling. This is the current software that comes with our i1Pro 2 spectrophotometer packages i1Photo Pro 2 and i1Publish Pro 2. This latest version of i1Profiler with scanner profiling is supported for all current operating systems on Mac and PC.
