X-Rite Coloratti Jim DiVitaleColoratti Jim DiVitale’s very first architectural project has now produced a book and a major show at the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art in north Georgia. The show runs from April 7 – September 9, 2012 with a formal opening on June 2 from 6:00-8:00pm at the museum, 30 Atlanta Street, Marietta, Georgia.

The project began with the collaboration of Douglas Frey and Jim DiVitale as they wrote about and photographed the historic homes of Marietta, Georgia. This area, north of Atlanta, was spared the “scorched earth” tactics of General Sherman during the Civil War that destroyed most of the antebellum architecture in Atlanta and south Georgia. But these homes were spared and live today to tell the architectural story of an era that must be remembered as much for the infamy of chattel slavery in the United States as for gracious southern living.

The three year project photographing homes and other buildings in the Marietta, Georgia area has already been produced as a beautiful book called Marietta: Gem City of Georgia featuring full color photographs from the project interwoven with stories about the Civil War era.  This new exhibit features 27 black and white 24×36 images printed especially for this exhibit by Jim DiVitale.

We caught up with Jim at Photoshop World in Washington, DC earlier this year to talk about the book, the show, and the importance of color management for digital photography.  Enjoy this short video of Jim talking about the project.

The images were captured in HDR using no artificial lighting so color management began in the camera at capture and was vital. Monitor calibration and profiling allowed Jim to edit and prepare the photographs all the way through to the CMYK printing for which there was no final color proof.  Everything had to be right from capture to view to print.  X-Rite color management solutions allow photographers and filmmakers to control their color workflow and take the guesswork out of digital photography.
