ColorTRUE White Point Setting
by Brenda K. Hipsher – March 21st, 2014
The new ColorTRUE app for iOS and Android mobile devices allows you to see your images with color accuracy to rival your desktop computer. One critical option for matching desktop and mobile device is the white point setting on both devices.
In the photo industry we routinely use D65 as your white point setting for monitor profiles. This is the default setting in the ColorTRUE app. And there are also two additional options for those situations where your desktop monitor’s white point may not conform to D65. Choose from D50 and Native in addition to D65.
Remember if the white point setting you use on your desktop monitor is D65 then leave this setting at the D65 default for a color accurate match to your monitor. However, when using the device to soft proof using printer profiles you may want to change this setting to D50 since the viewing conditions for prints is usually D50. This setting can be changed at any time. You do not need to profile your device again to make this change using ColorTRUE.
The ability to adjust white point is another feature of X-Rite’s new innovative option for viewing color accurate images on mobile devices. Keep reading the X-Rite Photo blog for your on the many feature of ColorTRUE.
