Coloratti Photos of the Week for September 2017
Ollie Kenchington – “Allium”
One of our Coloratti Photos of the Week is actually a video by ndependent professional filmmaker and owner of Korro LTD, Ollie Kenchington. Ollie was featured in September with his short film “Allium”. Ollie used the Sony FS5 (with raw upgrade), Sony G 90mm macro lens. He also used Atomos Shogun Inferno monitor-recorder, Really Right Stuff FH-350 tripod and Zacuto Zamerican and Zicromount monitor arm. He edited the short film on Final Cut Pro X and graded in Davinci Resolve.
“Using the bright purple flower heads of Allium ‘Purple Sensation’ as a starting point, I wanted to capture the exuberance of an English country garden. I filmed the bees coming and going, visiting all the different flower heads and was struck by how seemingly random and almost playful their movements were. That gave me the idea to follow up with additional footage the following day, of my youngest daughter chasing bubbles in the garden. Her excitement and frenetic movements perfectly echoed those of the bumble bees all around her – oblivious to one another and yet reveling in the sunshine in unison” explains Ollie.
Tom Mackie – “Big Sur Coast”
Next to feature in our Coloratti Photos of the Week is Tom Mackie. The “Big Sur Coast” image was captured at Calla Lily Valley in the Garrapata State Park, Big Sur, California in USA during sunset. Tom captured this breath-taking image using the Nikon D810, Nikon 24-70mm, ISO 200. He used the Gitzo GT3542XLS tripod with Gitzo GH3382QD ball head.
“There are times when all the elements of a location come together to make the image that I have in my mind, but it often takes a bit of preparation beforehand. I arrived in the afternoon carefully making my way along the footpath surrounded by poison oak to look for suitable compositions. I chose this composition because of the arrangement of flowers in the foreground with the stream leading towards the V-shaped coastline. I waited until the sun set into the middle of the V creating a soft light of harmonious colours of yellow and lush greens” comments Tom.
Ashley Karyl – “Charlestown”
Ashley Karyl is last featured in Coloratti Photos of the Week. His stunning images were captured in his home town of Charlestown, Cornwall. Shot on the Canon 1DsII with a 24-105L lens during the late afternoon in March, Ashley was looking to capture the feel and atmosphere of his hometown.
“Both images were shot in Charlestown which is one of the key locations used for the Poldark television series. I had simply set out to capture a feel of the harbour, which remains part of a working village for fishermen and boat builders” adds Ashley.
