X-Rite Coloratti Photo of the Week – March 2018
by Dave Mobbs – March 29th, 2018
During the first month of spring, we shared the work of our brilliant Coloratti Ambassadors on our Facebook and Twitter channels. This month it was the turn of filmmaker Ollie Kenchington, landscape photographer Duarte Sol and colour management expert Giuseppe Andretta.
Ollie Kenchington is an independent filmmaker and owner of Korro LTD. He works as a freelance Colourist and Certified DaVinci Resolve trainer. He also delivers courses through his own Blackmagic Design Certified film school, Korro Academy, and Google’s YouTube Space: London.
For this video clip, Ollie was shooting in a girl’s school, just outside of London. The brief was to create a five-minute case study about how the school had deployed hundreds of iPads (one for each child) and the positive transformation that it had on girls’ education. He was shooting on a Canon C200 with Canon CN-E 85mm T1.3 cine prime lens and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Photo in 4K 50p MP4.
“It was a beautiful, sunny, winter’s day and the school had a lot of large glass atriums, particularly around the entrance. I noticed these beautiful, long shadows being cast as the students walked across a mezzanine in one of the atriums. I quickly started recording. We were shooting everything 50p that day and I just knew this shot would look wonderful slowed down. In fact, it ended up being our opening shot, which really set the tone for the film” adds Ollie.
Based in Portugal, Coloratti Duarte Sol is an economist and professional landscape photographer. He started shooting back in 2010. His passion for landscape photography stems from the fact that he loves to be in contact with nature. He also sees it as a way to endure the stress of everyday life.
To capture his stunning shot “The Old Beauty”, Duarte used a Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 16-35mm lens with NiSi V5 Pro Holder, NiSi CPL Filter and Nisi Medium GND ND8. He also used an FLM Tripod CP30-L3 Pro and FLM Tripod Head CB-43FTR. Before travelling to his location in Alcácer do Sal, Portugal, Duarte calibrated his monitors using the X-Rite i1Display Pro to ensure the images he is editing on screen accurately represent the images captured during the shoot.
Coloratti Giuseppe Andretta is a colour management and photography consultant based in Italy. In addition to his passion for photography, he is a Leica Akademie Teacher and Adobe Certified Instructor in Photoshop. He re-started printing professionally in 2016 and founded an online fine art printing company.
Giuseppe has been taking photographs since he was 13 years old. At the moment, he is undertaking a long-term reportage in Morocco. These images were taken in a Berber house in Ourika Valley near Marrakech. “I always carry an X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Photo in my photography kit, to create camera profiles, check the colours captured in the image and perform necessary colour correction” adds Giuseppe.
