X-Rite i1Profiler v1.5 Released

MonitorX-Rite continues to enhance its premier i1Profiler software with today’s i1Profiler v1.5 release. i1Profiler v1.5.0 includes the following updates and improvements:

• Improved i1Display Pro support for all modern display technologies, such as LED, Plasma, RG Phosphor, OLED and Wide Gamut

• Added support for the HutchColor (HCT) targets

• Improved projector position detection

• Device Link profiles for accurate color source to destination CMYK conversions (included in i1Publish packages)

• M1 support for i1iO (in spot mode)

• Support for the Ugra/Fogra Media Wedge CMYK v3 LFP for large format printing

Device Link is particularly useful to stabilize the printing process and/or save ink in CMYK conversions. These profiles complement the use of ‘normal’ ICC profiles. They convert color directly from one color space to another, without the use of an independent profile connection space. They are also used to limit the total amount of color and use more black in order to stabilize the printing process and/or save ink. This is the primary value of this technology in offset printing.

Device Link profiling can also enable increases in quality, especially for RGB-to-RGB or RGB-to-CMYK. These result in pure, highly saturated colors and the same color appearance as original RGB data.

X-Rite Color Perfectionists Unite!Device Link Eligibility & Licensing: Device Link Profiling is now included all i1Publish offerings. Users must have an i1Pro 2 device with an i1Profiler Publish license OR a dongle with an i1Profiler Publish license to unlock this new feature. Free update to all current owners with these qualifications.

Your i1Profiler software will let you know there is an update available when next launched or download the software from www.xritephoto.com.

Coloratti News | Keith Cooper Reviews i1Basic Pro 2

X-Rite i1Basic Pro 2Our good friend Coloratti Keith Cooper has produced three in depth articles on the new i1Pro 2 spectrophotometer solutions beginning with i1Basic Pro 2.  Keith walks us through the major physical changes and some unique features of the i1Pro 2 device in really well done “roll over” photos that give you a good look at the new device and its accessories. CLICK HERE to read the whole review i1Basic Pro 2 review.

This review takes you through the practical use of the device for monitor and projector profiling and is filled with all the technical data that you might want to consider.  And in the end he considers whether this solution is right for you. This review is a great place to start for in depth understanding of the monitor and projector features of the i1Pro 2 solutions as well as a look at the accessories and new design.

Keith points out that there is a removable filter in the Limiting Aperture that allows for user cleaning.  I removed the Limiting Aperture from my own device this morning just to see how it comes apart and goes back together. Note that it’s going to be very stiff both taking off the aperture and removing the filter for cleaning on the first go. But it will loosen up once you’re removed and reinstalled it once.  I did note that the leading edge tab on the removable filter must seat properly back into the Limiting Aperture to allow it to be reinstalled on the device. See the red notations on the instruction image below.

X-Rite i1Display Pro in position to create a profile for a digital projector

Keith Cooper at Northlight Images reviewed X-Rite ColorMunki Display back in the summer of 2011. We featured that review on the X-Rite Photo Blog in August 2011. Keith also reviewed X-Rite i1Display Pro so we want to call that to your attention as well. CLICK HERE to read that review in its entirety. X-Rite introduced two new display solutions in mid 2011, ColorMunki Display and i1Display Pro. Both devices include innovative new hardware colorimeters and new software solutions that are specially designed for the latest monitor technologies. Both solutions offer monitor AND projector profiling.

The new i1Display Pro utilizes the new i1Profiler software giving you the ultimate flexibility in workflow, patch set creation, quality assurance tools, profile evaluation methods and more. This new device measures up to 5x faster than previous colorimeters and is small and lightweight, ideal for travel.

Northlight Images Reviews X-Rite i1Display ProOne of the coolest things in this review is a link to Keith’s short and concise guide to understanding color management called “A brief explanation of Colour Management: Seeing the right colours.” It’s designed as a quick read and brief overview but it does a great job explaining why you NEED color management for your digital photography workflow.  And at the end there are links to all kinds of good stuff including the Adobe utility for printing profiling targets (CS5) with no color management, links to other reviews, and other useful articles including Keith’s reviews of the i1Profiler software that drives the i1Display Pro.

You’ll also find a helpful chart included in this review that compares i1Display Pro and ColorMunki Display features. Here are some of Keith’s conclusions near the end of the article, “The new colorimeter represents the latest from X-Rite and follows on from the very popular i1 Display 2 (and basic i1 Display LT version). Advances in monitor technologies are covered by this new device (along with the option of updating aspects the device for future display technologies). As a monitor calibrator, it works quickly and effectively, and profiles compare favourably with devices many times as expensive.”

Be sure to read the entire article. It is quite extensive giving you a real in depth look at the product.  CLICK HERE to read that review in its entirety.
