i1Display Pro Advanced Features | Custom Patch Sets
by Brenda K. Hipsher – July 28th, 2011
The new i1Profiler software v 1.1.1 has some exciting new features including custom patch set options for display profiling. The first addition is three sizes of patches. A drop down menu offers small, medium, and large patch sets with 119, 220, and 478 patches respectively.
There are three ways to modify the patch set for display profiling. The first icon to the left is the sum sign with patches. This shows the total patch set that has been selected. The second icon is patches only and will show what patch set has been selected from the Default Patches drop down menu.
The third icon looks like a Pantone patch set fan. This module allows you to select patches from the Pantone Color Manager that is part of the i1Profiler software.
The way to get these colors into the i1Profiler software is simply drag and drop. And you can send as many patches as you like into the window. This feature can be useful if your project actually references particular Pantone colors. For the first time you can pull actual Pantone colors into your custom patch sets.
The third way to customize your patch set is by extracting a color palette from an actual photograph. Click on the fourth icon to reveal another window for putting a photo into the software. You can either drag it in or click the button marked “Load Image.”
The patches selected from the Pantone Color manager and extracted from a photo are added to the patch set selecte in the Default Patches drop down menu.
To view the total patches that you’ve selected go back to the first icon on the left, the one that shows the sum sign and the patches. Look at the example below. The image on the left shows the one Pantone image that we selected above and the palette that was extracted from the image we inserted. The image on the right below shows the small patch set WITHOUT the addition of patches from the Pantone Color Manager or a photo.
You have the freedom to create larger patch sets that are customized to what you need. Remember that when we add patches the measure time increases. Fortunately the measure speed on the i1Display Pro is 5 times faster than previous i1 colorimeters. This increase in measure speed allows you to create monitor patch sets never before possible. And remember that in i1Profiler Advanced Mode you can save workflows to use in future or share with others.
