Phototuts+ Review | X-Rite ColorMunki Display
by Brenda K. Hipsher – December 3rd, 2011
There’s a great new review of ColorMunki Display out there and I want to make sure you see it. Daniel Sone writes for Phototuts+, an interesting website with a great blog, tutorials, tips, videos, and more. Recently he had an opportunity to use and get to know one of our two new display solutions, ColorMunki Display.
I first became aware of Daniel in his three part series called “From Camera to Print, Preparing Images for Print.” In that article he detailed his experience with a color managed workflow and the absolute necessity of calibrating and profiling your monitor if you expect to get good prints from your image file. In that article he talked about i1Display 2 and ColorMunki Photo.
In his newest article for Phototuts+ he reviews ColorMunki Display. He compares ColorMunki Display to the i1Display 2 device and i1Match software to the ColorMunki display software. Daniel goes on to give an in-depth look at one of the newest features in X-Rite display solution technology, Ambient Light Smart Control. This feature checks the ambient environment at an interval that you set in the software and either automatically adjusts the profile for the changing viewing conditions or simply notifies you of the change. Here’s what Daniel says, “The new features in the ColorMunki Display unit are very liberating. Now, I don’t have to worry or wait until I get back to the studio in order to properly process and softproof my images with confidence. Watching the ColorMunki automatically shift my display settings was actually exciting. I could literally see it working!…If you’re a photographer who doesn’t have access to a light-controlled editing environment, traveling photographer, or photojournalist the ColorMunki Display is an excellent tool to get you the accurate color you need for your workflow – now pretty much anywhere.”
Take a moment and read the whole “Review of X-Rite’s ColorMunki Monitor Calibrator” at Phototuts+. Daniel uses photos and graphics to illustrate the text and really gives us a good long look at Ambient Light Smart Control, one of the new features in ColorMunki Display.
