EDITFEST NY June 8 and 9, 2012
by Brenda K. Hipsher – May 31st, 2012
New York city is THE place to be for filmmakers and film editors June 8-9, 2012. EditFest NY is the east coast version of the American Cinema Editors (ACE) popular EditFest series originally launched in 2009. It’s a weekend of learning, networking and fun. ACE EditFest NY, co-produced by Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWshop), will take place at the Director’s Guild of America Theater on West 57th Street in New York City from Friday, June 8 to Saturday, June 9. This must-attend industry event will feature panelists of editors including Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. (The Avengers, Crazy Heart), Christopher Tellefsen, A.C.E. (Moneyball, Capote), and Alexander Hall (Treme, The Messenger), among many other influential creatives who will provide insight into the editing and filmmaking process.
“New York City is home to so many artists and filmmakers, so we’re very excited to be able to offer EditFest to this area. Whether they’re up-and-comers or experienced veterans, everyone has something to learn and something to offer at this event,” says American Cinema Editors (ACE) President Randy Roberts. “Plus, we’ve got a top-notch lineup of speakers and panelists for this year’s event that will surely provide attendees with an invaluable experience they can’t get anywhere else… except EditFest LA that is.” ACE EditFest NY, co-produced by MEWshop, will take place at the Director’s Guild of America Theater on West 57th Street in New York City from Friday, June 8 to Saturday, June 9.
This will be the fourth year for EditFest NY. The first EditFest was held in Los Angeles in 2008 and the first year for the NY event, co-produced by MEWshop, was 2009. Those who have attended in the past are a diverse cross section of people including industry professionals, students, and everything in between.
EditFest programs are both inspirational and educational. Industry professionals share both their skills as well as their passion for filmmaking and editing. “You walk away [from EditFest] blown away,” said Josh Apter, founder and president of MEWshop. “There’s really nothing like it in terms of getting to hear from … editors of [this] caliber.” Here’s a brief look at the program and some of the professionals who will be expected to participate:
