Easy to Use ColorChecker Passport

My name is Konstantin Driess and I am a German based photographer mainly for fashion and advertising. Take a closer look at our work at www.konstantindriess.de.

A while ago we started to look into more color critical work and needed a solution for good color control. Nowadays , our clients place great value to see correct colors when they pick out there favorite shots. For this reason, last year we started to check out different products to help us with this. Among others we found the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport.

First, we tried out different settings in a controlled environment and quickly came to the realization that ColorChecker Passport is the right thing for us. So we took it out into the field for a closer look. Our first in field experience with the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport was with a good client of ours who we worked with since the beginning of our business. We have been blown away by the results and how simple it is to use. We were very surprised and happy with the performance.

We shot in the beautiful location the Hotel Elephant, Weimar. Because clothing was involved we needed to get the color right. The color  is critical for customer who will order from the images we shot.

Each time we changed light, and we changed a lot between daylight and Flash, we shot an extra image with the ColorChecker Passport. However, if you think that it gets more complicated you are wrong. Later on in post-production we just loaded everything into Lightroom and used the Passport plug-in to create a profile for each scene and that was it. We shot 13 outfits and therefore had 13 different color checker images it took us less then 20 minutes to adjust all images. There were 500+ with  the correct color in no time. The client was able to make the final selection of the photos while seeing them in perfect color. Our client confirmed that it was easier for them to pick their favorites while viewing the entire shoot in corrected color.

ColorChecker Passport saved us so much time in the post and is so simple to use. As a professional photographer I am very happy that X-Rite came along with this amazing solution.
