Libro "Cantinflas"

Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno Reyes, although he called himself Mario Moreno, (August 12, 1911 – April 20, 1993), was a Mexican comic film actor, producer, and screenwriter known professionally as Cantinflas. He often portrayed impoverished campesinos or a peasant of pelado origin. The character came to be associated with the national identity of Mexico, and allowed Cantinflas to establish a long, successful film career that included a foray into Hollywood. Charlie Chaplin once commented that he was the best comedian alive, and Moreno has been referred to as the “Charlie Chaplin of Mexico”. To audiences in the United States, he is best remembered as co-starring with David Niven in a Golden Globe Award-winning role in the 1956 film Around the World in 80 Days.

In July 2011 a very special exhibition was opened at the Galerías Abiertas del Parque de Chapultepec, to celebrate 100 years from the birth of Mario Moreno Cantinflas.  The exhibit contained 126 photographs, caricatures, and posters from all the films of Mexico´s most famous comic of all time.  This was a public exhibit where giant pictures hung on the fences that close off the famous Chapultepec Park and run along Paseo de la Reforma–one of Mexico City´s main arteries.

This exhibition, organized by the Government of the Federal District, Fundación Mario E. Moreno A.C with corporate support was a national tribute in his honor.  And now from the exhibition comes a very special book as well.

Eduardo Moreno Laparade , Vice President of the Foundation Mario E. Moreno and his nephew, said that the book commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of his uncle, Mario Moreno, ” it was really difficult to produce as it was not the contribution of a single author, but of dozens of authors, all telling their stories and experiences”.opne gallery

The book “Cantinflas” is really a unique piece and was not produced to be sold. The 3500 copies produced were distributed  only to few people, embassies, friends and libraries. The book is a co-publication of Gruma , Banorte and Fundación Mario E. Moreno A.C ,
