X-Rite Coloratti Photo of the Week – June 2018
by Dave Mobbs – June 28th, 2018
It’s finally summer, with long days of sunlight, beautiful sunsets and opportunities to visit your favourite destinations. It’s no wonder that outdoor photography is so popular and this month we have selected some of our favourite landscape photographs (Coloratti POTW) to share on Facebook and Twitter. In June, it was the turn of Coloratti Ambassadors Chantal Lichtenberg, Frank Doorhof and Antonio Gaudencio.
Chantal Lichtenberg – Diamond Beach
Based in Germany, Chantal Lichtenberg is a landscape and seascape photographer, who enjoys travelling and getting to know new places or countries. “I’m intrigued by lighting in natural landscapes. I’m also interested in the ways lighting can transform textures, shadows and colours in the environment. Capturing this image was an amazing experience, as I love seascape photography and the sunrise was perfect!” adds Chantal.
After a few practice shots, Chantal was able to capture the stunning image using the Canon EOS 6D with EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens and NiSi Filterholder V5-Pro.
Frank Doorhof – Dubai Desert
Frank Doorhof is a talented model/fashion photographer, based in Amsterdam and writer of bestselling photography book “Mastering the Modelshoot”. “I captured this image during my recent stay in Dubai and I really wanted to shoot some ‘red’ images in the desert. My wife Annewiek aimed two Canon strobes at the model just out of the frame. I used a Canon 5D MKIII for the shot, which still had sand in a year later!” explains Frank.
By using the strobes, Frank was able to overpower the setting sun just enough to give the desert the ‘red’ look he was looking for.
To ensure the colour was accurate, Frank used the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport during the shot and when retouching his images at a later date. He also re-profiles his camera and monitors every four months, to ensure that he can deliver work that stands out with accurate colours.
Antonio Gaudencio – Sunset on Notre Dame de Paris
Coloratti Antonio Gaudencio is a freelance photographer, digital specialist and editor. He works with communication agencies and magazines, and also trains amateur photographers on digital imaging, shooting and editing.
Antonio captured his stunning image in Paris, using the Canon EOS 5D Mark III accompanied with the EF24-105mm F/4 IS. Before travelling to his location in France, Antonio calibrated his monitors using the X-Rite i1Display Pro. This was to ensure the images he is editing on screen accurately represent the images captured during the shoot.
“Paris is a very beautiful city, and I like to play with the light of the sunsets or the sunrises. These particular lights truly reveal all the beauty of the Parisian monuments. Notre Dame de Paris is really beautiful when its architecture is enhanced by the lights of the city” explains Antonio.
