X-Rite Coloratti Photo of the Week – August 2018

by Dave Mobbs – August 30th, 2018

This month we shared the fantastic work of our gifted Coloratti Ambassadors on Facebook and Twitter. In August, it was the turn of landscape photographer Antonio Gaudencio, talented Frank Doorhof, commercial photographer Joan Boira and wedding photographer Sanjay Jogia.

Antonio Gaudencio – NYC Vibrations

Coloratti Antonio Gaudencio is a freelance photographer, digital specialist and editor. He works with communication agencies and magazines, and also trains amateur photographers on digital imaging, shooting and editing.

Antonio captured his stunning image in New York City, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. Before travelling to his location in New York, Antonio calibrated his monitors. He used the X-Rite i1Display Pro to ensure the images he’s editing on screen accurately represent the images captured during the shoot.

“The city of NYC is an inspiring city. I believe that my photography is fairly representative of this megalopolis, because it’s full of vibrations, it’s alive day and night and it’s always moving…” adds Antonio.

Frank Doorhof – Nadine Professional Imaging

Based in Amsterdam, Frank Doorhof is a talented model/fashion photographer and writer of bestselling photography book “Mastering the Modelshoot”. Frank captured this image on the tradeshow floor of Professional Imaging during a live demo.

He used a Sony A7RII and Elinchrom Strobes. Frank’s always prepared for impromptu shoots, as he always carries with him the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Photo, to ensure the colour captured at the shoot is accurate.

“Believe it or not, I hardly remember anything from this shoot! I was almost too sick to stand and only managed thanks to the help of my team. We used the Sony camera as a prop, just to have some fun and also explain the inclusion of a prop to tell a story!” explains Frank.

Joan Boira – Chocolate Hearts

Joan Boira is a Barcelona-based photographer and operates a photography studio for worldwide commercial clients and personal projects. His photography style is marked with bold colours, product compositions and props.

To edit his image, Joan used Apple computers with BenQ’s PhotoVue monitors. He calibrates his monitors using the X-Rite i1Display Pro.

“The i1Display Pro incorporates technologically advanced filter and optical solutions to profile monitors, projectors and printers for reliable performance and colour accuracy. Without tools to manage colour, my results would be unpredictable. If we want our clients to remain happy, we have no choice but to deliver high quality!” adds Joan.

Sanjay Jogia – Nimisha

Coloratti Sanjay Jogia runs a successful award-winning luxury destination wedding photography business based in London and has recently featured as one of the 6 Best Wedding Photographers in the World by Professional Photographer.

“This image of Nimisha on her wedding day was conceived through sheer observation of the bride: both beautiful and confident, yet conscious of her appearance. I caught a glimpse of her making final adjustments in her reflection of the car window. This inspired the concept of her looking in the ‘wing’ mirror of her Bentley” comments Sanjay.

With every image that Sanjay shoots, he takes a photo of his X-Rite ColorChecker Passport Photo. He then creates a new colour profile for that particular camera in those specific lighting conditions. This is to ensure total colour accuracy and consistency, without guesswork and estimation.
