X-Rite Coloratti Photo of the Week – October 2018
by Dave Mobbs – October 25th, 2018
Every month we share the work of our talented Coloratti as our POTW on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. This October, it was the turn of Martyn Goddard, Francesco Gola and Ross Grieve to be featured, with images ranging from landscapes, to fast cars and sporting events, so quite a mixed bag! Each of the featured images has an interesting story behind it, so read on to find out!
UK-based Automotive/Travel photo journalist Martyn Goddard became part of the New Wave music scene of the seventies, working with acts such as Blondie, The Jam, Sham 69 and The Cure to name a few. In the late 1970’s he was invited to contribute to the Sunday Telegraph Magazine where he was assigned portrait and feature shoots with some of the great personalities of the arts world, while at the same time shooting for the iconic ‘Car Magazine’ producing automotive and travel stories.
He has moved to a digital platform in recent years, becoming an active photo-blogger and content provider a producing travel features and images for Media groups in UK, Europe and USA, in addition to cataloguing and preserving his extensive archive rock bands and musicians.
In this picture, our Coloratti image of the week, Martyn spent a day driving this historic racing car, the D-type Jaguar, a car built specifically to win the Le Mans 24-hour race between 1954 and 1957.
It sure looks like Martyn had a lot of fun at this shoot!
If you’ve been following our blog, then you’re no stranger to our Italian Coloratti Francesco Gola. Francesco is in love with long exposures of seascapes. For him a long exposure is a parallel universe in which to escape from the frenzy of modern life. His passion for the sea and for travels take him to some of the most iconic locations on this planet !
Francesco took this month’s featured image on the Balearian Island of Menorca, at Cap Favàritx Lighthouse.
“I spent a lot of time in front of the lighthouse and just before leaving it, it was so kind to offer me a wonderful, warm sunset, that I will never forget..”.
Photographer Ross Grieve, a Kiwi living in Wales, has been a Coloratti for almost a year now and is an expert on color management. He’s recently hosted a webinar on printing called “Demystifying colour management for your printing” which, in case you’ve missed it, can be watched by registering here.
Our featured Photo of the Week is an image which Ross took a few years ago at the IronMan race in Wales. Taken on a Lumix GH4 with a Leica Nocticron 42.5mm. As it turns out, luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity:
“I saw the athlete running down the finish line and the sky was so dramatic, I had to take the shot. As I was about to take it, the athlete jumped and did a crucifix shape. You couldn’t plan it! “ says Ross of this incredibly lucky shot.
