ColorChecker Video Workflow with DaVinci Resolve
by Alan Winslow – November 6th, 2018
Welcome back to our ongoing editing workflow series. In this edition independent filmmaker and X-Rite Coloratti Ollie Kenchington will help you better understand the ColorChecker Video charts. These steps will improve the quality of your rushes drastically, getting ideal balance and color consistency, as well as matching footage from multiple cameras in DaVinci Resolve.
He will start out by giving tips on how to White Balance onset using the X-Rite charts. Next, Ollie will discuss precisely how to use and where to place the focusing and color charts in your scene
Ollie will then move into DaVinci Resolve to first discuss the built-in color match feature that pairs with the X-Rite charts. With a few clicks you will get perfect color according to your selected source and target gamma. Next, he will share how to manually adjust saturation, exposure and skins tones. To achieve this the waveform scopes, selections, and the HSL slider tools will be used.
As a bonus, he will share just why you can not have a reflection in the glossy strip on the chart.
