Coloratti Photo of the Week – July 2019
by Alexandra Ilie – July 26th, 2019
Another month of fantastic pictures from our Coloratti is coming to an end. In July we welcomed a new photographer to our Coloratti family, Francesco De Marco. We also shared some amazing landscape photography from Francesco Gola and Kevin Wilson.
Francesco is one of the best long-exposure seascape photographers in the business. His passion and dedication stem from his desire to produce unique, mesmerising imagery that will stop you in your tracks.
Francesco travels all over the world to capture the most stunning images. One of his recent trips has been to the Outer Hebrides, which is where he shot our first Photo of The Week in July.
“Mangersta is an unbelievable location in the Outer Hebrides. Along the wild coastline you can find amazing sea stacks like these. I went there many times, but on that morning, I was so lucky to find some low clouds running fast in the sky: the perfect subject for a long exposure!”
If you’re thinking, I wish I could take pictures like Francesco, you’re in luck! Francesco likes talking about his work and sharing his knowledge with other people. He does this through his personal blog, events and workshops, or through webinars. Speaking of webinars, we hosted a webinar with Francesco a few months ago on workflows for landscape photography. The webinar was in Italian, Francesco’s native tongue, and if you’d like to watch it, head on to our Italian YouTube channel.
Our newest Coloratti is a professional nature photographer based in Italy, with a passion for traveling and teaching.
Francesco’s always had a love for nature and a curiosity to discover the traditions of the worlds’ populations. So much, that he picked up the camera almost as a joke. In time he realised that a simple click was something stronger: “a click gives you the opportunity to capture what you want to remember” says Francesco.
He went to university where he studied photography, but still continues to improve his knowledge. In order to achieve that, he attends various workshops around the world. He now works with many other well-known brands and is also an Ambassador for BenQ monitors, Sirui, Kase, Steiner Optik, to name a few, as well as an Adobe Certified Associate.
If you’re interested in learning photography with Francesco, why not give one of his workshops a go? On the 27th of July he will be hosting a photographic workshop in Rome. Shortly after, he will be in Abruzzo National Park for another workshop between August 3-4. Or, if you’re more the adventurous type and don’t mind freezing temperatures, perhaps try the photographic journey that he will host in the Norwegian Arctic Circle, in Senja, between 16th-22nd of October. With 25 years of experience to his name, Coloratti Kevin Wilson almost needs no introduction. He is one of the UK’s most well-respected Wedding and Portrait Photographers, and the only photographer in the UK to have achieved seven fellowships, including an Honorary Fellowship. Each of these he obtained in different genres.
This month’s featured photo is not the usual wedding or portrait shots you’re used to seeing from Kevin, rather a landscape. Not long ago, Kevin got an invitation on a six-star luxury liner to do private portraits for the guests. In order to do this, you have to be a Fellow of The British Institute of Photography, the highest accolade a photographer can receive.
Kevin used a Canon 1dx MK2 with a lens setting of 560 mm. He captured these fifty shades of blue around 8:15pm, in a place called Skagway, Alaska.
