Coloratti Photo of the Week – September 2019
by Alexandra Ilie – September 30th, 2019
Portrait photography can be one of the most challenging forms of photography. Capturing a photo that appears natural and conveys the subject’s personality is a skill that takes patience and lots of practice. From choosing the right gear, finding the perfect location, to posing the subject and adjusting your composition, you have to gain many skills to master portraiture.
“The colour harmonies are especially important to me in my pictures. Everything should be tone in tone and have fine details.
In this picture, the pink swimsuit, combined with the balloons and the rosy background form a colorful unit. Thus, the overall picture fits wonderfully with the skin colour of the model- there are no disturbing elements or colours. Everything is reduced and focused. That’s how I like to photograph my portraits.”

When it comes to portrait photography, Ross’s style and natural flair have seen him earn several awards.
“I love photographing people – the social interaction is a buzz – and although the nerves still kick in (which I think is a good thing) seeing my clients enjoying the images I have created for them is just magic” says Ross.
Our Photo of the Week features Shaunagh Slattery from Britain’s Next Top Model and was shot using the Lumix G9.
If you want to take shots like Ross, make sure not to miss his creative masterclass with Color Confidence at Wrest Park, in the UK, on how to combine ambient lighting with flash to create stunning images and much more. More details here: https://bit.ly/2MtmAls
Kevin took this portrait of Megan while exploring different environmental light conditions.
“The light level was low, as were deep in the woodland embankment with overarching branches. I wanted to show the effects that reflectors can bring to light” . ” I have been documenting this young girl, Megan, since she was age 12 (now at University). Her family also has incredible portraits taken over the years, all very different!”.
